Long time no see! It’s been a while since my last post here, but I’m back with a free Pokemon pattern~

This time it’s the ghost-type pokemon, Gengar!


Materials

  • Purple yarn
  • Red felt (for eyes)
  • White felt (for the mouth)
  • Black fabric paint or embroidery thread (for eye & mouth details)
  • Crochet hook, size 4.5mm
  • Darning needle
  • Stuffing
  • Hot glue gun (for attaching the felt)

Abbreviations

*Crochet terms are US terms

  • MC = magic circle
  • SC = single crochet
  • BLO = back loops only
  • INC = increase
  • DEC = decrease
  • SS = slip stitch
  • CH = chain
  • * = repeat around

Legs / Body

  1. SC 8 in MC (8)
  2. SC 1, INC * (12)
  3. In BLO, SC * (12)
  4. SC 5, INC * (14)
  5. SC 6, INC * (16)

Finish off, leaving a short tail – this creates the first leg

Repeat Rounds 1 – 5 to make the second leg, but do not finish off. Continue below:

  • SC 4, CH 1, TURN
  • SC 4, CH 1, TURN
  • SC 4, CH 1, TURN
  • SC 4, CH 1, TURN
  • SC 4

This creates the tab/bridge between the two legs. Next step is to join the legs together:

  • Make 4 SC through both the tab/bridge and the first leg
  • SC 12 around the 1st leg
  • SC 5 on the tab/bridge
  • SC 12 around the 2nd leg
  • SC 5 on the other side of the tab/bridge (34)

Now the legs are joined together, continue on:

  • SC around, making 1 increase on each side (36)
  • SC * (36)
  • SC * (36)
  • SC * (36)
  • SC * (36)
  • SC * (36)
  • SC * (36)
  • SC * (36)
  • SC * (36)
  • SC 16, DEC * (34)
  • SC 15, DEC * (32)

Finish off, leaving a tail to weave in the end

Finish off, leaving a tail to sew the horns to the body

Arms (x2)

  • SC 6 in MC (6)

Finish off, leaving a tail to sew the arms to the body

Tail

  • SC 4 in MC (4)

  • SC 2, INC * (8)

  • SC 4, INC * (12)
  • SC 2, INC * (16)
  • SC 3, INC * (20)

Finish off, leaving a tail to sew to the body


Time for the face details!

  • Cut two half circle shapes in red felt
  • Cut a wide smile shape in white felt
  • Use black fabric paint (or embroidery) to add the details to the eyes and mouth

Assembly

  • Attach the felt eyes and mouth to the body using hot glue
  • Sew the horns to the top of the head
  • Sew the arms to the sides of the body
  • Sew the tail to the back of the body

And now Gengar is complete!
