Here is the free pattern for Chef Bear!


Chef Bear

Materials

  • Body color yarn (teal)
  • Chef hat color yarn (white)
  • Apron color yarn (white)
  • Apron accent/edging color yarn (light teal)
  • Crochet hook (size G / 4.5)
  • Stuffing
  • Pink and black felt for blush and nose/mouth
  • Hot glue gun (to attach the felt)

Abbreviations

Head

  • Using the body color yarn…
    • SC 8 in MC (8)
    • INC * (16)
    • SC 1, INC * (24)
    • SC * (24)
    • SC * (24)
    • SC * (24)
    • SC * (24)
    • SC * (24)
    • SC * (24)
    • SC * (24)
    • SC 2, DEC * (18)
  • Add 8mm eyes between Rounds 7 & 8, about 5 stitches apart
  • Cut out two circles in pink felt and attach to the bear’s head under the eyes with hot glue.
  • Cut out a small triangle and thin black rectangle in black felt and attach to the bear’s head between the eyes with hot glue.
  • Begin stuffing and continue stuffing through the end
    • SC 1, DEC * (12)
    • DEC * (6)
  • Finish off and leave a long tail for sewing

Ears (x2)

  • Using the body color yarn…
    • SC 8 in MC (8)
    • INC * (16)
    • SC * (16)
    • SC * (16)
  • Finish off and leave a long tail for sewing

Sew the ears to the sides of the head

Legs / Body

  • Using the body color yarn…
    • SC 8 in MC (8)
    • SC 1, INC * (12)
    • In Back Loops Only: SC * (12)
    • SC * (12)
    • SC * (12)
  • SS and finish off, leave a short tail
  • Repeat rounds 1 through 5 of the legs, but do not finish off
  • Instead, continue on to create a “tab” that will make a “bridge” between the two legs:
    • SC 4, CH 1, turn
    • SC 4, CH 1, turn
    • SC 4
  • Join this second leg to the first leg
    • Insert your hook into the first stitch of the tab, and a stitch on the first leg. SC through both of these. Repeat this for the length of the tab
  • From here, continue to SC around both of the legs until you have a total of 24 stitches (24)

Stuff the arms, then sew them to the sides of the body.

Chef Hat

  • In the chef hat color yarn…
    • CH 9, in the second stitch from the hook SC, then continue to SC across (8)
    • CH 1, turn, SC in Front Loops Only (8)
    • CH 1, turn, SC in Front Loops Only (8)
    • CH 1, turn, SC in Front Loops Only (8)
    • CH 1, turn, SC in Front Loops Only (8)
    • CH 1, turn, SC in Front Loops Only (8)
    • CH 1, turn, SC in Front Loops Only (8)
    • CH 1, turn, SC in Front Loops Only (8)
    • CH 1, turn, SC in Front Loops Only (8)

  • SS along the side to join both ends together
  • Around the top of the hat, SC around for a total of 12 stitches (12)

  • Finish off, then sew the hat closed

Chef Hat Edging

  • In the chef hat color yarn…
    • CH 21, in the second stitch from the hook SC, then continue to SC across (20)
    • SC * (20)
  • Finish off, then sew around the bottom of the chef hat

[OPTIONAL] Sew (or hot glue) the chef hat to the top of the bear’s head.

Apron

  • In the apron color yarn…
    • CH 7, in the second stitch from the hook SC, then continue to SC across (6)
    • SC 2, INC 1, SC 3 (7)
    • SC 3, INC 1, SC 3 (8)
    • SC * (8)
    • SC * (8)
    • SC * (8)
    • SC * (8)
    • SC * (8)
    • SC * (8)
  • Finish off / change colors to the accent color
  • In the accent color, SC around all the edges of the apron, then weave in the yarn tail

Apron Side Straps (x2)

  • In the apron accent color yarn…
    • CH 15
  • Finish off and leave a tail to attach to the apron

Sew one side of the straps to the sides of the apron.

Trim the tail on the other end of the apron straps.

Apron Neck Strap

  • In the apron accent color yarn…
    • CH 14
  • Finish off and leave a tail to attach to the apron

Sew one side of the neck strap to the top of the apron, weave in the end.

Place the apron on the bear, then sew the other side of the neck strap to the apron and weave in the end.

Tie the side straps in the back.


And now your Chef Bear is complete!
