Flower-Back Turtle Pattern

Here is the free pattern for a flower-back turtle! These cute little creatures can be customized with any color combinations to make each one unique.

Flower-Back Turtle

Materials

• Body color yarn (light teal)
• Shell color yarn (variegated purple/blue)
• Shell edging color yarn (blue)
• Underbelly color yarn (white)
• Flower color yarn (pink)
• Crochet hook (size G / 4.5)
• Stuffing
• Small amount of black yarn to embroider the mouth
• Pink and black felt for blush and eyes
• Hot glue gun (to attach the felt)

Abbreviations

*US crochet terms

• MC = magic circle
• SC = single crochet
• HDC = half double crochet
• DC = double crochet
• TR = triple crochet
• INC = increase
• DEC = decrease
• SS = slip stitch
• CH = chain
• * = repeat around

Head

• Using the body color yarn…
  • SC 8 in MC (8)
  • SC 1, INC * (12)
  • SC 2, INC * (16)
  • SC * (16)
  • SC * (16)
  • SC * (16)
  • SC 2, DEC * (12)
• Using black yarn, sew the mouth
• Begin stuffing and continue stuffing through the end
  • SC 1, DEC * (8)
• Finish off and sew the head closed

Cut out two curved lines in black felt and attached to the turtle’s head with hot glue.

Cut out two small circles in pink felt and attach to the turtle just under the eyes with hot glue.

Shell

• Using the shell color yarn…
  • SC 8 in MC (8)
  • INC * (16)
  • SC 1, INC * (24)
  • SC * (24)
  • SC * (24)
• In the shell edging color yarn…
  • In back loops only, SC * (24)
• Finish off and stuff the shell

Underbelly

• Using the underbelly color yarn…
  • SC 8 in MC (8)
  • INC * (16)
  • SC 1, INC * (24)
• Finish off

Sew the underbelly to the bottom of the shell.

Arms & Legs (x4)

• Using the body color yarn…
  • SC 6 in MC (6)
  • SC * (6)
  • SC * (6)
• Finish off

Sew the arms & legs to the underbelly of the shell.

Sew the head to the shell.

Inside Flower

• In the flower color yarn…
  • SC 10 in MC (10)
  • In the next stitch:
    • *HDC 1, DC 1, HDC 1; SS in the next stitch*
    • Repeat around
• Finish off

Outside Flower

• In the flower color yarn…
  • SC 10 in MC (10)
  • INC * (20)
  • In the next stitch:
    • *HDC 1, DC 1, TR 1, DC 1, HDC 1; skip the next stitch, SS in the next stitch*
    • Repeat around
• Finish off

Sew the inside flower to the center of the outside flower.

Sew the outside flower to the shell.
