A crochet pattern for the one you turtley love! Make a pair of these sweet turtles, Sherman and Shelley, to celebrate your loved one on Valentine’s Day ❤


Sherman & Shelley – Turtley in Love Pattern

Materials:

  • Pink yarn
  • Shell color yarn (variegated)
  • Accent color yarn for the shell (white)
  • Light blue/green yarn
  • Black yarn (for sewing the eyes)
  • Crochet hooks, sizes E & G (one larger, one slightly smaller)
  • Stuffing

You only need a small amount of yarn for each color, it’s a good way to use up some scrap yarn too!

Abbreviations:

*Crochet terms are US terms

  • MC = magic circle
  • SC = single crochet
  • DC = double crochet
  • TR = triple crochet
  • INC = increase
  • DEC = decrease
  • SL = slip stitch
  • CH = chain
  • * = repeat around

Shell:

  • Using the shell color (variegated yarn)…
    • SC 8 in MC (8)
    • INC * (16)
    • SC 1, INC * (24)
    • SC * (24)
    • SC * (24)
    • SC * (24)
    • SC * (24)
    • SC * (24)
  • Switch to the accent color (white)…
    • In back loops only, SC * (24)
  • Finish off, you do not need to leave a long tail, just enough to weave in the end
  • Lightly stuff the shell

Underbelly:

  • Using the body color (light blue/green)…
    • SC 8 in MC (8)
    • INC * (16)
    • SC 1, INC * (24)
  • Finish off and leave a long tail for sewing

Arms & Legs:

  • Using the body color (light blue/green)…
    • SC 8 in MC (8)
  • Finish off and leave a long tail for sewing

Head:

  • Using the body color (light blue/green)…
    • SC 8 in MC (8)
    • SC 1, INC * (12)
    • SC 2, INC * (16)
    • SC * (16)
    • SC * (16)
    • SC * (16)
    • SC 2, DEC * (12)
    • *Using black yarn, sew on the eyes (I sewed a slight U shape between rounds 5 & 6). For Shelley, you can add little eyelashes too! Also begin stuffing*
    • SC 1, DEC * (8)
  • Finish off and leave a long tail for sewing
  • Finish stuffing the head

Heart:

  • Using pink yarn…
    • Make a magic circle
    • CH 3
    • TR 2
    • DC 3
    • CH 1
    • TR 1
    • CH 1
    • DC 3
    • TR 2
    • CH 3
    • Slip stitch in the center, then pull tight
  • Finish off and leave a long tail for sewing

Assembly:

Now it’s time to assemble all the pieces together!

  • Sew the underbelly to the shell
  • Sew the arms & legs to the underbelly
  • Sew the head to the shell
  • Sew the heart onto the top of the shell
